The Quaife Peugeot 206 Masters
Malcolm Wilson Rally - Round 1

York driver Ian Tippett and co-driver Lee Burgess won the first round of the Peugeot 206 Masters championship on Saturday at the Malcolm Wilson Rally, beating Steve Rogers / Pete Gill by 1 minute 21 seconds, with Miles Johnston / Eliot Retallick third. Johnston led initially, building up a lead of more than a minute. But a broken wheel on Grizedale North also shattered a brake disc, and resulted in a huge time loss while mending the problem in service, dropping them right out of contention. This left Tippett to drive steadily, doing just enough to keep ahead of Rogers to the finish. "I'm still learning the car, but it's got better as the day has gone on" said Tippett. The 206 Masters, which, says series organiser Kevin Furber, is designed to give competitors the same level of competition as the Peugeot 206 Super Cup but in a less pressurised atmosphere, will follow the same championship rounds as the Peugeot 205 Scholarship.
